What should you do when trials, disappointments, or unanswered prayers begin to weaken your confidence? Hebrews 10 gives believers a clear answer: remember what God has already brought you through, hold firmly to your faith, and refuse to draw back.
Main Scripture: Hebrews 10:32–39
Central Message: “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.” — Hebrews 10:35
Remember What God Has Already Done
The believers addressed in Hebrews had endured persecution, public criticism, imprisonment, and the loss of their possessions. They had once stood courageously for Christ and supported other believers who were suffering.
Over time, however, hardship began to wear them down. Their faith was becoming unstable, and they were in danger of drawing back. The writer of Hebrews called them to remember their former days—when the light of the Gospel first changed their lives and God gave them strength to endure.
Your Eternal Treasure Cannot Be Taken Away
These early believers could respond to earthly loss with joy because they knew they possessed something greater and more enduring in Heaven. Other people could take their property, but they could not take away Jesus Christ, the promises of God, or their eternal inheritance.
That truth still gives believers strength today. Everything we own in this world is temporary, but what God has prepared for His people will remain forever.
Hold On to Your Confidence
Hebrews 10:35 warns believers not to throw away their confidence. Pastor Jeff explains that this means we must not abandon our faith, surrender our hope, or forget the work God has already accomplished in our lives.
When another difficult season arrives, remember the previous storms God helped you survive. The God who carried you before is still able to sustain you today.
You Have Need of Endurance
Faith does not mean believers will never experience suffering. Jesus warned that there would be trouble in this world. Endurance means continuing to trust God, obey His Word, pray, and move forward even when the answer has not yet arrived.
God works according to His appointed time. His promises may not be fulfilled according to our preferred schedule, but His Word will not fail. The just must continue to live by faith.
Four Encouragements for Difficult Seasons
- Remember how Jesus changed your life and what God has already brought you through.
- Remain confident in God’s character, His Word, and His promises.
- Practice endurance by continuing to pray, obey, and trust God.
- Keep moving forward instead of allowing hardship to pull you away from your faith.
This Is the Time to Draw Closer
The closing challenge of this message is simple and powerful: this is not the time to draw back. It is time to draw closer to Jesus. Keep praying. Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep believing, even when you cannot yet see the answer.
