Deeply Rooted in Christ
About Clayton First Assembly
Since July 1987, Clayton First Assembly has been a church family centered on Jesus Christ, grounded in Scripture, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and reaching outward with grace.

Our Story
Serving Clayton Since July 1987
Clayton First Assembly of God opened in July 1987. Pastor Jeff Houston pioneered the church after recognizing that the Clayton area did not have an Assemblies of God congregation.
With the support of the Georgia District of the Assemblies of God, he planted the church to create a local place where people could hear the gospel, worship, pray, grow in Scripture, and serve the community.
Nearly four decades later, that purpose continues: helping people develop deep roots in Christ and reach outward with grace.
Our Maple Tree
Deeply Rooted in Christ, Reaching Outward with Grace
Like the maple tree at the center of Clayton, a healthy church begins with deep roots. Prayer, worship, Bible study, discipleship, service, encouragement, and the truth of God’s Word give us strength through every season of life.
The branches and leaves represent what others see: ministry, outreach, fellowship, compassion, and worship. The cross within the tree reminds us that Jesus Christ is not simply part of who we are. He is the center and strength of everything we do.

Four Core Doctrines
Bible-Based and Spirit-Empowered
The Assemblies of God gives special emphasis to four foundational truths because of their central role in reaching the lost and building believers and the Church.

Salvation
Through Jesus Christ, people can be forgiven, made new, and restored to a personal relationship with God.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live faithfully, serve boldly, and share the gospel with others.

Divine Healing
We believe God still heals and invite people to bring every need to Him in faith-filled prayer.

The Second Coming of Christ
We live with confident hope in the promised return of Jesus Christ and the eternal life found in Him.
Statement of Fundamental Truths
What We Believe
The Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. The following 16 Fundamental Truths summarize the doctrinal beliefs shared by Assemblies of God churches. Expand any section to learn more.
01. The Scriptures Inspired
The Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and are the authoritative rule for Christian faith, belief, and conduct.
Key Scriptures: 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21
02. The One True God
There is one true God, eternally existing and revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of humanity.
Key Scriptures: Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10-11; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22
03. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, and exaltation to the right hand of God.
Key Scriptures: Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 7:26; Acts 2:22; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Matthew 28:6; Acts 1:9
04. The Fall of Man
Humanity was created good and upright, but voluntary sin brought physical and spiritual death and separation from God.
Key Scriptures: Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:17; Genesis 3:6; Romans 5:12-19
05. The Salvation of Man
Every person can be restored to fellowship with God through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is received by grace and brings inward renewal and an outward life of righteousness.
Key Scriptures: Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 2:8; Titus 3:5-7
06. The Ordinances of the Church
We practice water baptism by immersion for those who repent and believe in Christ, and Holy Communion as a remembrance of Christ’s suffering, death, and promised return.
Key Scriptures: Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:26
07. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit
Believers should earnestly seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit, a distinct experience that brings power for Christian life, witness, service, and the exercise of spiritual gifts.
Key Scriptures: Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4,8; Acts 8:12-17; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31
08. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is accompanied by the initial physical sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit enables.
Key Scriptures: Acts 2:4; 1 Corinthians 12:4-10,28
09. Sanctification
Sanctification is separation from evil and dedication to God. It begins as believers identify with Christ and continues as the Holy Spirit helps them grow in holiness.
Key Scriptures: Romans 12:1-2; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-16
10. The Church and Its Mission
The Church is the Body of Christ. Its mission is to evangelize the lost, worship God, disciple believers, and demonstrate God’s love and compassion to the world.
Key Scriptures: Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 2:22; Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:19-20; James 1:27
11. The Ministry
God calls and equips ministers to lead the Church in evangelism, worship, discipleship, and ministries of love and compassion that meet human needs.
Key Scriptures: Mark 16:15-20; John 4:23-24; Ephesians 4:11-16; James 1:27
12. Divine Healing
Divine healing is an important part of the gospel. We believe God still heals and invite people to bring every need to Him in faith-filled prayer.
Key Scriptures: Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:14-16
13. The Blessed Hope
We believe in the resurrection of believers who have died and their gathering together with living believers at the coming of the Lord.
Key Scriptures: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:13; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

16. The New Heavens and the New Earth
We look forward to God’s promised new heavens and new earth, where righteousness dwells and God’s redeemed people live with Him forever.

A Personal Relationship with Jesus
The Plan of Salvation
Salvation is God’s gift of grace. It is received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, not through good works or religious achievement.

A – Admit
Admit that you have sinned and need God’s forgiveness. Every person has fallen short, and sin separates us from God.
Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23

B – Believe
Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead.
John 3:16; Romans 5:8

C – Confess and Commit
Confess Jesus as Lord, turn from sin, and commit your life to following Him. Everyone who calls on the Lord will be saved.
Romans 10:9-10,13
A Simple Prayer of Faith
Jesus, I confess that I have sinned and need Your forgiveness. I believe You died for me and rose again. I turn from my sin and place my trust in You as Savior and Lord. Make me new and help me follow You. Amen.
