What do the seven biblical feasts reveal about Jesus Christ, God’s plan of redemption, and the return of the Lord? In this Scripture-filled sermon, Pastor Jeff Houston walks through the appointed feasts of Leviticus 23 and explains how each one points toward the work of Christ.

Main Scripture: Leviticus 23:1–2 and 23–25

Additional Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:51–52, 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, Mark 13:32, Psalm 81:3, and Matthew 25:1–13

God’s Appointed Times Point to Jesus

Leviticus 23 describes seven feasts that God gave to Israel. These were more than annual observances. Pastor Jeff describes them as appointed gatherings and prophetic rehearsals that reveal important parts of God’s plan.

The spring feasts point to events already fulfilled through Jesus Christ. The fall feasts look forward to events associated with His return, Israel’s restoration, and the future kingdom of God.

The Seven Biblical Feasts

  • Passover points to Jesus, the spotless Lamb whose blood delivers us from sin and death.
  • Unleavened Bread reminds us of the sinless life of Christ and His sacrifice for us.
  • Firstfruits points to the resurrection of Jesus and the promise of resurrection for believers.
  • Pentecost points to the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the New Testament Church.
  • The Feast of Trumpets focuses attention on the sounding of the trumpet, gathering, and expectation.
  • The Day of Atonement points toward repentance, reconciliation, and Israel’s future recognition of the Messiah.
  • The Feast of Tabernacles celebrates God’s provision and looks toward the time when He will dwell among His people.

The Meaning of the Feast of Trumpets

The Feast of Trumpets begins with the appearance of the new moon and the sounding of the shofar. During the observance, the trumpet is traditionally sounded repeatedly, concluding with a long final blast.

Pastor Jeff connects this imagery with Paul’s teaching that believers will be changed “at the last trump” and that the Lord will descend with the trumpet of God. While emphasizing that no one knows the exact day or hour of Christ’s return, the sermon explores why many believers see a possible prophetic connection between the Feast of Trumpets and the gathering of the Church.

Are You Ready for the Lord’s Return?

The purpose of studying prophecy is not to create fear or encourage date-setting. It is to awaken the Church and remind every believer to remain spiritually prepared.

Jesus’ parable of the ten virgins presents a sobering picture: five were wise and prepared, while five allowed their lamps to go out. All ten were waiting, but only those who were ready entered when the bridegroom arrived.

A Personal Challenge

  • Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ?
  • Are you remaining watchful and grounded in God’s Word?
  • Is there anything in your life that needs to be surrendered to God?
  • Would you be ready if the trumpet sounded today?
